Educational Programs

1.  STREEM  Program - (Science, Technology, Recreation and Environmental Education Mastery)

Purpose Statement:  Science, Technology and Environment are of monumental importance for our future existence on this planet.  We live in a unique environment here in Northeastern Florida, which is currently being threatened through habitat destruction, depletion of our natural resources and over-building.  "Environmental education is a process aimed at developing a population that is aware of and concerned about the total environment and its associated problems, and which has the knowledge, attitudes, skills, motivation, and commitment to work individually and collectively towards solutions of current problems and the prevention of new ones." (UNESCO).  Our county needs a full-time educational program to intensify environmental concepts.  Environmental problems are everyone's problems!

Philosophical Position:  We believe that a stable and intact natural environment improves our quality of life.  We believe that environmental education is a necessary component towards maintaining and preserving our natural environment for all students and that direct experience in the natural habitat is the best avenue to learning.

2.  CLEAR Program - (Communications, Language Education, Arts & Reading)

Purpose Statement:  Communication, Language, Arts and Reading are tremendously important in our social context.  In fact, they define our social context.  The philosopher Martin Heidegger wrote, "Existence is itself essentially linguistic."  Articulate communication is the essence of both leadership and business.  To be effective communicators, students must acquire basic language skills as well as opportunities to apply those skills to relevant tasks.  They must also recognize the limitations of communication and learn to use multiple channels of representation in a coherent and expressive manner.

Philosophical Position:  We believe that effective communication is the key to successful social interaction.   We believe that it is important for all students to be able to understand and express ideas clearly using different mediums for a multiplicity of purposes.

3.  CHANGE Program - (Culture, History, Anthropology, Nations, Geography & Economics)

Purpose Statement:  Human Services and Social Studies form the cornerstone of any society.  A people's culture, government and history give them a unified identity and help them appreciate being a part of something larger than themselves.  Cultural diversity strengthens and enriches life, but also provides special challenges.  Students need to extend their awareness beyond the boundaries of home and community, and learn to appreciate the multi-textured fabric of society and humanity.

Philosophical Position:  We believe that tolerance is a learned attribute of a civilized society.  We believe that citizens have the obligation to learn and participate in their country's political structure.  We believe that true leaders serve their fellow man.

4.  BILT Program - (Business Innovations, Leadership & Technology)

Purpose Statement:  The purpose of education should be to help people create lives they truly want to create.   This is accomplished by providing them with the knowledge and skills that allow them to excel and succeed in a variety of situations.  Learning to lead instead of follow, learning to produce instead of consume, learning to solve problems instead of create them, are educated skills.  All students should be instructed in areas that will allow them to accomplish the purpose of education.

Philosophical Position:  We believe that business, leadership and technology are all areas of learning that a student needs to achieve a high level of success in society.  We believe that foundational knowledge and practical skills in these areas will provide students with opportunities and perspectives to achieve their goals in life.

5.  SHAPE Program - (Science, Health, And Physical Education)

Purpose Statement:  Health Services occupy a large segment of the job market and require knowledge of the sciences as well as skills in business and leadership.  Philosopher Joseph Schwartz said, "By finding out about our Science we find out about ourselves."  Exploring the different areas of Health Science and its applications in life will provide the students with knowledge and skill that will benefit them in whatever occupational field they choose.

Philosophical Position:  We believe that Science and Health education are basic to a person's orientation for leading a healthy, active life.  We believe that students need active involvement in health education to understand and appreciate the complicated and delicate systems that operate within themselves and in the world around them.

6.  TEMPS Program - (Technology Education, Mathematics & Physical Science)

Purpose Statement:  Math, Science and Technology are all critical fields in our evolving technological age and will be the occupational areas of the future.  Education in these three areas has become a national priority.  Mathematician and scientist Johannes Kelper once said, "The chief aim of all investigations of the external world should be to discover the rational order and harmony which has been imposed on it and which is revealed to us in the language of mathematics."  Stressing the importance of mathematics, philosopher Immanuel Kant added, "In any particular theory there is only as much real science as there is mathematics."  The purpose of this program will be to have students learn these critical areas and their application to real-world situations.

Philosophical Position:  We believe that a solid foundation in mathematics and its applications in the areas of Science and Technology will be of great importance to a skilled workforce in the 21st Century.  We believe that students competent in these areas will have superior employment possibilities.
