STREEM Unit Plan: Mrs. Bagby’s Class
Science, Technology, Recreation, Environmental Education Mastery
Unit Topic: Ancient Rome
Rome was one of the greatest and most powerful civilizations the world has ever known.  From about 700 B.C.E. until about 476 C.E., the Romans cultural, political, social developments would shape the course of world history.  The development of Rome from a small republic to a giant empire is a fascinating chapter in history, and that will be the main focus of this unit.  We will also study aspects of every day life in ancient Rome as well as the lasting effects that have impacted our modern world.  In conjunction with the theme of the STREEM unit, we will also cover topics such as how geography affected the development of the Roman empire, inventions such as natural means of indoor climate control, and the many forms of Roman recreation.

Project: Roman Museum Artifact
For this project, students will choose a Roman artifact to recreate for our ABLE Museum.  Mrs. Bagby has a binder in her classroom where several different project options are detailed, and students must choose one of these to create at home.  Some of the project options require more materials than others, so students should be sure to pick a project for which they will be able to gather all of the necessary material.  Students will have to make their project selection on their own time either during class if they finish an assignment early, or between classes when they have time.  A project proposal sheet will be provided which needs to be filled out and returned at least 1 week before the project due date.  Each student is expected to make, not buy, their own project and present it to the class.  After all classes present, 3-5 projects from each class will be chosen to go on display for our ABLE Museum Night Friday, April 23rd.  At Museum Night students will vote for their favorite projects, and the top 3 will receive prizes!  Any student who attends Museum Night will receive 5 points extra credit on their project, and anyone may attend even their project was not chosen to be on display.
