SHAPE Unit Plan
Unit Theme: Bullying
Project: Prepare a skit for elementary school kids to explain the different types of bullying and what can be done about them.
Essay: Persuasive Essay
Reading: Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick
Fieldtrip: We will visit the students at Ketterlinus Elementary School to perform our skits.
Guest Speaker: Epic

Monday (Day 1)

  1. Vocabulary Review (pg. 42-44)     

b. Introduction to the project
c. Read pg. 1-40 in Freak the Mighty
d. How to write a persuasive essay (E. pg. 80-81, pg. 83-85, pg. 88-89)
e. Bullying exercise
f. Math
g. Spelling Lesson
Homework: Finish reading for a quiz the next day. Work on your persuasive essay. Brainstorm for your project.

Tuesday (Day 2)

  1. Vocabulary Review (pg. 45-46)     

b. Reading Quiz
c. Read pg. 41-79 in Freak the Mighty
d. Bullying Exercise
e. Guest Speaker
f. Project Time: brainstorm and write out the skit
g. Math
h. Spelling Lesson
Homework: Finish reading for a quiz the next day. Finish first two paragraphs of the persuasive essay.

Wednesday (Day 3)

  1. Vocabulary Review (pg. 47-48)     
  2. Math

c. Reading Quiz
d. Read pg. 80-121 in Freak the Mighty
e. Spelling Lesson
f. Academic Enrichment
g. Enrichment
Homework: Finish reading for a quiz the next day. Finish the rest of the persuasive essay.

Thursday (Day 4)

  1. Vocabulary Review (pg. 49-50)

c. Read pg. 122-160 in Freak the Mighty
d. Bullying exercise
e. Project Time

g. Spelling Lesson
Homework: Finish reading for a quiz the next day. Study for the test. Practice your project performance.
