Unit Plan: “Healthy Living, Healthy You!”
Dear Parent,
In this unit, our class will be focused on the building of healthy lifestyles. This unit will address the use of various techniques to create health and well being in both mind and body. Students will learn how to manage their own health through the conscious practice of healthy eating, fitness, personal growth, and creative expression.
In this unit, students will design a poster as their final project, using poster art as a medium to create a personalized theme for a healthy life style. Students will also be provided with insights and information on how to improve the quality of life physically, mentally, and emotionally. A field trip to The Present Moment Market and Cafe will help to introduce students to healthy eating and raw organic foods. Students will be reading the book City of Ember, by Jeanne Duprau, as part of the school’s required reading program.
Guest speakers and mini sessions taught through out the week will include:
Students will be shown a visual relaxation DVD, and listen to ambient music CD’s while working on their projects. There will also be an emphasis on classroom environments, with non traditional seating at times (without tables and chairs) for certain activities or for open forum discussions on various topics. Students will be asked to bring or wear comfortable clothing to class and to take off their shoes for some of the activities. Each student will present their final project to the class for peer review and a final grade. Students’ projects will be evaluated using a rubric.
On the back of this page is a list of assignments, due dates, and the grading scale
